The Recent Explosion In West, Texas That Killed 15 And Wounded Hundreds Is A Beautiful Work Of God And Is But A Taste Of What Is Coming

“It, like, picked you up.  It just took your breath away.  And then it dropped you and it exploded everything around you.  It was like a suction and then it just blew it all out.  You could feel everything.  You could feel it on your skin; your hair was being blown.  . . .  All my windows blew out, my doors off the hinges.”

That was one first-hand account of the recent explosion in West, Texas that killed 15 and wounded hundreds.  That blast left a 93-foot wide, 10-foot deep crater in the earth and crippled a 37-block residential area.

This beautiful work of God is but a tiny taste of what’s coming.

“But the heavens and the earth, which are now . . . are kept in [storage], reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. . . .  [T]he day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy [lifestyle] and godliness.”  (2 Peter 3:7, 10, 11).

Now that’s from the New Testament; from the Old Testament:

“And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.”  (Micah 1:4).

One Bible scholar said this about these words of Scripture:

“[A]ll the works of nature, wicked men, cattle, trees, (landscapes) and so on, and all the works of men, cities, towns, houses, furniture, utensils, instruments of arts of all sorts, will be burnt by a material fire, breaking out of the earth and descending from heaven, for which the present heavens and earth are reserved: this general conflagration was not only known to the Jews, but to the Heathens, to the poets, and (ancient) philosophers, who frequently speak of it in plain terms.”

This world-wide burn will come suddenly and unexpectedly (“thief in the night”) and swiftly and violently (“great noise”).

Calvin tells us these words require “no long explanation” – the words are clear and mean what they say.  In a word, this earth and its atmosphere are going to be abruptly, quickly and violently purged by fire!

And it’s going to be loud — a noise as the oceans make in a great storm or maybe even a little like the noise the West, Texas explosion made the other day.

All this gives more good light on our “Flee the Wrath to Come” signs, wouldn’t you say?

Amen!
