Harry Potter? Really? We’re Talking About Eternity And You Ask About Harry Potter? Well, We Answer

Dear Shirley,

I want to ask what your family’s and the church’s opinion on Harry Potter is.  The new movie reminded me of the condemnation the series has received from some church groups, and I started wondering about WBC.  I am aware of your general belief that moderate enjoyment of pop culture is okay because “it is not what goes inside one that defiles them.”  Does HP fit into that category like everything else, or is it exceptionally bad?

Regards,

Nate

Dear Nate Comer –

If you have a very long day and you need some down time with the little people and you don’t want to think hard or even at all, watch this for some entertainment on a very surface level.  Don’t look too close at the humans involved or you will just find them to be rebels against God, and at this hour, I can’t even say with a straight face I am disappointed.  This generation has broken my disappointment meter.

It’s full of blasphemy.  It has turned the lives of the goofy actors into hell.  Don’t elevate it to anything at all.  Use but do not abuse such items.  Don’t exalt them to anything and for heaven’s sake, don’t pretend that the crap shown in those programs is real.  Don’t dare give the glory of God to another.  It pretends that witches have power in this earth.  It elevates foolish creatures to the status of some kind of god.  Inasmuch as this earth is full of fools that will find something to worship and this is as good as anything to fit that bill.

Thanks for asking.
