There Is A Reason Why Westboro, On A Daily Basis, Preaches The Same Fundamental Doctrines

God Sent The Shooter

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul said, “To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.”  In other words, not only was it not a burdensome thing to Paul to preach the same things repeatedly, but it was absolutely necessary to put the elect of God in a state of safety.  Similar passages are Isaiah 28:8-9 and 2 Peter 1:12-13: “Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” AND “Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.”

John Trapp said “Men are dull to conceive, hard to believe, apt to forget, and slow to practice heavenly truths, and had therefore great need to have them much pressed, and often inculcated.”

This is why the Westboro Baptist Church, on a daily basis, preaches the same fundamental doctrines like the sovereignty of God, faith in Christ, righteousness, temperance and judgment to come (Acts 24:24-25).  This is why, when a demon-possessed child in Nevada opens fire at his school, we will tell you that a sovereign God sent that shooter and that you have reaped what you have sown.  And as a testament to the effectiveness of this preaching, before we even utter one syllable about it, you know that that’s what we’re going to say.

As I mentioned earlier, Paul preached the same doctrines over and over because it was safe for the elect of God; and keeping them constantly before our eyes certainly is safe.  But for those people perishing in their sins, it has the opposite effect.  Back to Isaiah 28:  “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.”

To those people, this saving word of God was preached precept upon precept, line upon line, and it had the exact opposite effect of keeping them safe: they mocked it and it caused them to fall backward, be broken, snared and taken.

“For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?” 2 Corinthians 2:15-16.

Amen.
