OPEN LETTER TO KEVIN SMITH

2. To mimic, imitate or counterfeit.
3. To challenge; defy.
4. To deceive, delude or disappoint.
Kevin, you may not be the most well-known mocker of God in the world today. You are, however, one of the world’s most ardent. You are a new breed of mocker. Hiding your hatred and militancy behind absurdist humor and wrapping yourself in the currency of social media ‘cool,’ your professional life (and those parts of your private life that are plainly visible) has been dedicated to mocking and tearing at the standards of God. With the self-assuredness and skill of a post-modern pied piper (let’s just call you Twitter Twit), you deftly herd together disparate groups in a death march to try to validate your sin and theirs. Consider the evidence of your career:

Now, you have taken it upon yourself to vilify, demonize and in all ways mischaracterize a humble, lowly servant of God – a man who has spent his whole adult life hazarding his life, forsaking the riches, fame, and love of the world in order to warn his neighbor about God’s wrath – being obedient to that commandment given by Christ to love his neighbor as himself.
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. Heb. 11:24-26
You say that pastor Phelps is the ‘inspiration’ for one of the main characters in your most recent film, Red State. If this were really the case, then the film would be about a righteous man trying to warn a doomed, damned race of rebels to stop their sinning. Instead, you have created a mocking, 2-D caricature that bears no more resemblance to Phelps in truth than your films bear to Oscar-worthiness. The servants of God thank our Heavenly Father for this great token for good:
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. 2Ch 36:16
Much to your chagrin and eternal shame, and in a twist of irony that surpasses the best that Hollywood has to offer, the Lord God – the God who created you, raised you up and brought you specifically to this hour in the human experiment to show His power and to glorify His holy name – is using your mocking film, social network ranting and general Barnumesque marketing tactics as the platform for preaching His word to the whole world! The media can’t talk about Red State without speaking to the core message of Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church. And for this, we thank our Maker – the only wise God. In eternity, you will be specifically known, not as a filmmaker or social agitator, but as a world-class mocker and scoffer – and as a vessel fitted for destruction that the Lord raised to that ignoble office to give His messengers yet another conduit, a great door of utterance and effectual, to speak His word to a doomed race – putting the cup of His fury to their lips (and yours) and causing them to drink! That the name of the Lord is glorified and magnified is a great matter of rejoicing! And lest you think that such a proposition is far-reaching or preposterous, consider that God has done the same with MUCH greater and more powerful men than Twitter Twit Smith:

No matter your nefarious motives in the mocking of God’s servants to serve your own selfish, vain desires, God’s word is preached – and the harder you work to mock God’s people at WBC, the more stories get printed – worldwide. You think that you’re a brilliant marketer and publicist and God has chosen that delusion for you:
I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. Isa 66:4
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Ge 50:20
As I write this, I have great heaviness in my heart for you. Your parents raised you for the devil. You were undoubtedly abused at the hand of the vile Catholic Monster. They utterly shattered your moral compass. I am so sorry that you were lied to, Kevin. I am sorry that your parents hated you. I am sorry that the priests got a hold of you. Much violence and mischief has been done in the name of God by vile, base, lascivious, violent men:
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? Jer 5:31
That pedophile factory has nothing to do with the living God, other than it being another delusion that God gives people over to in their callous disobedience to His word:
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2Th 2:11
But now, Kevin, you have come to years, and you have hardened your heart against the very God that made you, and you have blazed a path that you will either totally abandon and renounce (should God give you the gift of repentance) or you will continue down, to your eternal shame and grief. The members of Westboro Baptist Church are the ONLY ONES in your whole, wretched life, who have loved you, by a Bible standard – the only standard that matters. We love you enough to warn you, over and over again, about your sins. We love you enough to hazard our lives doing it. We love you enough to go to Sundance to warn you. We love you enough to write this letter and to work to have it published. Yet you seem to wax worse and worse, mocking His people and every one of His standards.
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. Pr 14:9
God has done that. He has hardened your heart. Your only hope is to ask Him in all sincerity and humility to break your heart for your proud sin and rebellion. Remember, there are no sin-free people: the difference between the Elect and the teeming mass of reprobates is that God’s people are ashamed of their sin. Shame means that you grieve over your sin – that you want to stop your sin – that you don’t brag about it or put it on public display – that you don’t try to legislate it into social acceptance – and that you don’t demand that people applaud you. Most importantly, shame means a thorough recognition that there is only one means of forgiveness: Christ. And that, without forgiveness, an eternity of just, excruciating retribution awaits. Telling you that is love, Bible-style. You have not hit the grave and the Lord has not yet come, Kevin. But He is coming so soon, now – the time is short. The signs of the times point a big red, flashing neon sign to the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory – executing judgment upon this whole evil world. And it won’t go well for you on that great and terrible day. It might go something like this (I’ll try to speak your language – I’m not nearly as ‘cool’ as you, though):
