I am a sophomore at Biola University. If you haven’t heard of the school, it is known at the #1 Christian School in the nation, teaching a Biblically centered education and requiring all students to have a Biblical Studies minor.
as the subject states, this is a comment concerning Leviticus 20:23. I know the WBC is familiar with the verse, but for clarity’s sake the verse reads as follows from the Holman Christian Standard Version:
"You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and I abhorred them."
Anyhow, in the Hebrew, the words translated "and I abhorred them" is literally translated, in this case, "and I was sick with them" or "I had enough with them." So that last line "for they did all these things, and I abhorred them," is saying "I was sick of the things (the "statutes") they did."
So, to sum up in one sentence, the word abhorred goes with the statues/things they did, NOT the nations themselves.

Listen up sucker–you can twist and wrench the words beyond recognition–but you are STUCK with the fact that as you sit here reading over these words, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF HUMANS–NOT DISEMBODIED CLUMPS OF SINS/BEHAVIORS–ARE IN TORMENT IN HELL, FOREVER!
So how about this: Break open your troll bank; scoop up all your money; trot off to NY City; find a really fancy Wall Street-caliber marketing firm; and see if you can hawk this lie on the streets of hell. Start with Senator Robert Byrd and Justice Ginsberg’s husband, who just this very weekend had their souls required of them, and hell moved from beneath to greet them.
They had a big sarcastic hating welcome wagon waiting, including people back to Cain who sinned against God all their days, making it their life’s work, and when they quit this earth, awoke in hell, who have been in torment all these intervening years, and were eager to tell these powerful men of the earth what awaits them. Trust me, they are NOT jabbering about God hating the sin, not the sinner. (By the way, Gandhi the cow-worshiping-poop-water-drinking liar came up with that ditty; it’s not from the Bible.)
You know better than this bull-crap you’re spouting. You know there is a God and a hell and an eternity. You were born with a conscience, and you are responsible for its accusations against you which you get busy with ignoring every day. So shut up with this simplistic crap, get a Bible, read ALL THE WORDS, and obey them. And make sure all those filthy deeds of the nations whose land was taken from them and given to the tribes of Israel (subject to them obeying God’s commandments/covenant to keep the land)–which filthy deeds caused God to vomit them from the land and cast them into hell forever–MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT DOING THEM. Then you don’t have to get all twisted up like a pretzel trying to explain away the plain word of God.
This nation’s doom is imminent. Like a bunch of crazed fools, you’re headed straight to hell on a crazy train. The land will soon be churning and burning, and vomiting you rebels out of it, as this nation is DESTROYED.
Maybe as you’re flying through the air to your destruction you can blather on and on and on and on about God not hating you, just your filthy proud sins.
