The Most Hated Church In America

Subject: Interview Request For Jael Phelps

Hi there, my name is Simon Pharo. I’m a journalist from London,
England, and I write articles for a number of magazines for young
adults. I am currently writing a series of articles on the lifestyles
and life choices of young adults from unconventional backgrounds and
would like to include an article profiling Miss Phelps.

I am not looking to write an opinion piece, nor am I interested in
casting the Church in a negative light. Rather I am interested in the
human aspect of growing up in the Church, and feel that Jael is a
perfect candidate for such a piece.

Should it be published, this article would be distributed to tens of
thousands of young adults across the UK, providing a great deal of
exposure for the Church.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Simon Pharo –

Jael’s answers are in blue below – mine are in red.  Thanks!

Hi Shirley,
Thank you for your reply. As my article is really only in the planning stage I will try not to take up too much of your time. I do have some preliminary questions regarding the beliefs and activities of the Church which are unavoidable if I am to provide context for my article. Yourself or any member of the Church is welcome to answer these first two questions, which I hope I will be able to quote more or less verbatim in the finished article (provided your answers are suitable for printing!) It is important to me that I do not misrepresent the Church.

Q. What are the chief tenets of the Westboro Baptist Church?

READ THE BIBLE! OBEY GOD!

The doctrines can be simplified through an acronym TULIP:

T – Total Depravity – every human being from conception is innately evil and full of sin and cannot be saved through his own works.

U – Unconditional Election – there is no condition that man must meet in order to be saved. Grace is freely given and it is not incumbent upon man to accept or reject – it is only by the power of God to save.

L – Limited Atonement – only those people that Jesus Christ died for and will show indicia of being His saints during their life – only those people will be saved and the rest will go to hell. God does NOT love everyone!

I – Irresistible Grace – there is nothing that one of God’s elect can do to resist the grace of God – none of them will go to hell. Likewise: nothing that any of the wicked will do will ever get them grace.

P – Perseverance & Preservation of the Saints – through God Almighty, by the blood of Jesus Christ and through the influence of the Holy Ghost, none of God’s elect will go to hell and they will reign with God forever. The focus of the Trinity is to get God glory through the saving of His saints & the destruction of the rest.

Q. What activities does the Church partake in to spread it’s message, and why?

Everything that we can put our hand to – every day in every way – in service to our God. That includes, but is not limited to, picketing, singing, sending news releases, e-mailing, speaking on the phone, meeting in person, lecturing in classes, conference calls, tweeting, our web pages, sending letters, mailing DVDs, etc., etc., etc.

Phew! With those out the way I hope you don’t mind me asking some slightly more personal questions, and since I have been lucky enough to reach the famous (some would say infamous) Shirley Phelps-Roper I have taken the liberty of including some questions for you. As I noted previously though my articles are typically focused on the young adult demographic (I am 24) and that is why I have asked specifically for Jael. I hope that in time I will be able to talk to Jael directly, but in the interim I certainly appreciate the opportunity to ask of her the following questions.

For Shirley:
Q. Aside from the religious aspects, what could the world learn from the WBC in regards to the raising of their children and family relationships?

Good question.  DO YOUR STINKING DUTY TO YOUR CHILDREN!  They come into this world and Deuteronomy 31 says THEY KNOW NOTHING!  Deuteronomy 6 says you are to saturate them in the Word of God to teach them what the Lord their God requires of them.  Our children have blessedly simply lives!  It is so nice!  They are happy and well adjusted and they do well in school.  There are no crime or drug issues and no STDs or broken hearts or otherwise.  They seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and the righteousness of Christ and God supplies all that we need – everything that pertains to life and to godliness!!

Q. How difficult has it been to raise a family and build a community in the face of so much hostility from the outside world? Do you think you’ve done a good job and are you proud of your children?

Yikes – I get no credit for anything.  I/we have NOTHING except what we received from our God and at the end of the day, when we have done our duty, we say  – well, just check out the words:

“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.” Luke 17:10

Yes – that’s it!  It is NOT about our righteousness or our goodness, it is about God’s mercy!!

Q. Do you think there will ever be a time when members of the Church will be able to integrate into the greater society without facing such hostilities? Is that something you would want for your children?

NOPE!!  The destruction of this nation is IMMINENT!!  We will be thankful for our God to get us the heck out of here and then, bring the thunder!!  Remember, IMMINENT is the word of the year!  We are delivering a message of the evil, only evil that God has intended toward this nation!

Q. What does the future hold for the WBC? Do you think the Church will thrive and grow through your children and grandchildren, or will the pressures of the outside world weaken the message as it is filtered through the generations?

We have the blessed honor from our God of helping to dismantle this nation!  That is our job right now. We have been set over the nations to root out, and to pull down and – well, again, to the words:

“See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:10

That building and planting is not about Doomed america, but another project!

The end of WBC is the beginning of the hosts of heaven singing and rejoicing and this:

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.” Revelation 11:15-17

This is so thrilling that I can’t hardly stand it!!  Stay tuned for many excellent changes coming in this earth, because that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.  This earth, pursuant to the precious promises of our God is going to be folded up and changed!!  YAY!!  You must watch our music videos – check out that end of It Will Be!  We are covering these issues!  (here’s a nice link for you! :)

Before all of this vanishing away takes place, WOE unto this earth – God is going to do a thing that will cause the ears of them that hear to tingle!  Stay tuned.

For Jael:
Q. The last time UK audiences saw you was in a 2007 documentary made by Louis Theroux. At the time you were training as a nurse. What was it that drew you to nursing and is that a career path that you continue to follow?

It allows me to work a minimum amount of time and earn a wage so that I can serve God & help the servants of God. It is an interesting job that keeps you busy and the day goes quickly.

Q. How do you see your career unfolding as you get older? What do you think you will be doing when you are 40, and how has your upbringing within the Church helped or influenced your career choices?

THE LORD IS COMING! I don’t count on many more DAYS on this earth much less years! Being raised in a place where you regularly get good words, good examples and are fed the word of God daily has had an immense effect on me!

I could be just like some of the rebels that I grew up with and left out of here – who received the same loving upbringing – but the determination of God to send them to hell kept them back from being positively influenced.  It is only by the kind mercy of God that I am not totally lost and hopeless and unhappy and full of dread and sorrow.

Q. On a humanistic level, what do you love about being part of the WBC community?

Irrelevant. :)

Q. Aside from the religious aspects, what could the world learn from the WBC in regards to the raising of their children and family relationships?

Everything. :)

Q. Finally, and I’m sure you get this one all the time, but just how do you get such perfect teeth?? You know it’s really not fair on us Brits to have our inadequacies rubbed in our faces on national TV!

Floss & brush your teeth. Use toothpaste!

If Jael does read this I just want to say thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, and I hope we can exchange emails some time. After all, I still have a lot more questions to ask and research to do before I come close to a finished article.

Thanks very much.
Simon.
