This Nation Of Phony Christians That Deny Sodom And Noah’s Flood, Cannot Deny Pompeii. (Have You Seen The Movie? Don’t.)

The Fire Is Coming

The movie Pompeii opened this week, but the real story of Pompeii is far more interesting than the movie. Too bad the movie makers squandered this timely opportunity to help this generation to see that they are doing exactly what Pompeii did, when God brought their abrupt, sudden, full and final destruction.  On August 24, 79 A.D., roughly 2,000 years ago and just 50 years after the Jews killed Christ at the hands of the Romans, Mount Vesuvius, in Southern Italy, erupted.  God Almighty did it!

Pompeii was a pleasure city for the Romans where the wealthy would go on holiday.  It was a vacation resort full of absolute filthiness, think Las Vegas meets Miami Beach.  Pompeii sat at the base of Mount Vesuvius and had a population of about 20,000.  Polytheism was the rule of the day in Pompeii.  The inhabitants of Pompeii worshipped many pagan gods including Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Neptune, Apollo, Diana (Like Diana of the Ephesians – Acts 19), the ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis, and Priapus, the God of sex and fertility.

Here is a description of the filthiness of Pompeii.  The city was found to be full of erotic and pornographic art and frescoes, symbols, and inscriptions everywhere.  Even many recovered household items had a sexual theme. The ubiquity of such imagery and items indicates that the sexual mores of the ancient Roman culture of the time in Pompeii were more liberal than most present-day cultures (and that is saying something).  They also had brothels (that is whore houses) throughout the city – prostitution was completely legal there. I can’t even show you some of the paintings, sculptures and art because they are so perverted.

How do we know that Pompeii was so filthy?  Because it was perfectly preserved for more than 1500 years under 20 feet of volcanic ash.  You can go today to Pompeii and visit it and see their filthiness on display.   It is the city frozen in time.

God Almighty killed thousands at Pompeii.  When Mount Vesuvius erupted it shot superheated ash, gases, lava and the like at hurricane speeds toward the city. The ash completely blacked out the sun and reigned down for days and months.  This is nothing less than wrath of God, like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah reigning brimstone and death from the sky. The eruption of Vesuvius was quite sudden, and many of Pompeii’s inhabitants lost their lives while going about their daily work.   During the excavation of Pompeii archeologists pumped plaster around the decomposing bodies and produced accurate casts of the dead.  Many of the casts show the dead in erie poses like they died in mid motion.

Ro 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Eph 5:6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Rev 9:20  And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: 21  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

Interestingly, Mount Vesuvius is still considered to be the most dangerous volcano on earth today, because the current city of Naples Italy lies just 6 miles from it.

2Pe 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Rev. 16:9  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

This nation of phony Christians that deny Sodom and Noah’s Flood, cannot deny Pompeii. So instead, you hide their manner of life and reach around in your imagination to dream up a story line that will let you tell of the amazing destruction in the setting of a Titanic type love story. How shameful!

Amen.
