Let’s Get A Scriptural Definition Of Love

WBC-

As your church is well aware, (because I have noticed your extensive knowledge of the scripture) Jesus talks quite a bit about loving one another. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but there seems to be such intense hatred in the way you spread your message and warnings. My question is: Do you love only the members of your church, or do you love everyone? If you don’t love everyone, please explain to me what the biblical reason is for that to be ok with the Lord Jesus? Also, do you allow outsiders to join your church? And if so, have there been
many people who have approached your congregation with that desire?
May God bless you.

Laura-

Good news! It seems you just need a good, scriptural, working definition of “love” to clear up your confusion.

Leviticus 19:17  Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. 18  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

In this generation where “love” has come to mean “accept and encourage any and all conduct, grotesque or not” – we can understand where you might get confused. But in all truthfulness, your friends at Westboro are the only ones loving you. Here’s a short video that fleshes this concept out a bit more: http://twitvid.com/NPEXH.

Regarding your last two questions: anybody who wishes to sit and quietly listen to Pastor Phelps preach his sermon on Sunday is welcome to. Whoever believes the preaching of the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, are baptized. The perfect amount of people have approached our congregation with that desire.

Thanks for writing!
