Someone taught Bible to some of these locals, as one of the body collectors is quoted praying to God, and in an appropriate manner.
However, as that old drunk Winston Churchill said “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.” So these men glimpse the face of a raging mad God (Psalm 7:11) and then pick right up with their idolatrous worshipping of themselves, their strength and money.
